Foreign producers can now apply for the cash-rebate program in Moldova

10 October, 2022

The Moldovan National Film Center has recently launched a cash-rebate scheme for foreign productions. The program covers 25% of the total eligible expenses incurred on the territory of Moldova or 30% in the case of productions that specifically promote Moldova.

The program is available for producers registered in Moldova, who have a collaboration contract with a foreign producer, have at least 3 years of experience in film production, and have accumulated a minimum score on the Cultural Test.

The scheme covers a wide array of productions, from fiction, documentary, animation features and shorts to TV series, music videos, commercials, reality shows and multimedia projects.

It is especially aimed at low-budget productions. The minimal required expense on Moldovan territory is:

€5,000 for documentary shorts;

€25,000 for documentary features,

€30,000 for fiction shorts;

€100,000 for fiction features and animation series;

€20,000 for animation shorts;

€200,000 for animation features;

€50,000 for TV shows and reality shows;

€15,000 for music videos, TV series (one episode), commercials and any multimedia narrative project.

The sum offered by the Moldovan National Film Center can be increased if the producers can justify the need for greater financial support.

The applications can be submitted throughout the year, at least 25 working days before the film shoot begins. The file is reviewed within 20 days, so the producers are notified about the result, whether they qualify for the program or not, no later than a month.

The application file must contain the following: the request for financial support, general information about the project, the producer’s note, the director’s vision, the script, the distribution strategy, the production plan, the estimated budget, the collaboration contract between the foreign and local producer, the crew and cast list.
