The French Union of Film Critics reunites 245 members, journalists and writers and it’s responsible for La Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival. The prizes offered by the French Union of Film Critics reward the best movies and film productions of the year, but also cinema-related writings. The prizes are offered based on the member’s vote and the award for Best Foreign Film Debut was established in 2014.

Dogs was internationally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, where it won the FIPRESCI Award, in the Un certain regard section. The movie’s story takes place in Dobrogea and it revolves around Roman (Dragoș Bucur), a young man who decides to sell the land he has just inherited from his grandfather. While he starts preparing the papers for the transaction, he is warned by the local policeman that his grandfather was a local crime lord and his men will not let go of the land that easily. The film stars Dragoș Bucur, Vlad Ivanov and Gheorghe Visu.
