Queen of Hearts – The controversial Danish film, now available on TIFF Unlimited
Transilvania Film brings to the audience Queen of Hearts (dir. May el-Toukhy), an exceptional, award-winning drama, now also available in Romania on the TIFF Unlimited platform.
At a time when cinema halls in almost the entire country continue to remain closed, as a result of measures taken by the authorities to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the news that Transilvania Film brings national premieres to the public, in an adapted format, available from anywhere from the country, is received with great joy by film enthusiasts.
Queen of Hearts tells the story of Anne (Trine Dyrholm), a successful lawyer, who lives in a beautiful modernist home with her two daughters and physician husband, Peter. Yet when Gustav, Peter’s troubled teenage son from another relationship, comes to live with them, she forms an intimate bond with him that jeopardizes her perfect life.
According to director May el-Toukhy, “In Queen of Hearts, a strong woman makes several decisions that can have unimaginable consequences for her and her family. The film explores how far we are willing to go when we make such choices so that our lives are not turned upside down.”
Queen of Hearts had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival in 2019, where it won the Audience Award. In Romania, the film premiered on November 25, 2020, and is available on the TIFF Unlimited platform.
The film has achieved quite the international recognition; its distinctions include: the award for Best Director at Transilvania IFF, the Dragon Award Best Nordic Film and Best Acting (Trine Dyrholm) at the Göteborg Film Festival, as well as the awards for Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design and Best Score at the 36th Robert Awards presented by the Danish Film Academy.
The film is available to the public through a pay-per-view system; a digital ticket costs 15 lei and is valid for 72 hours. TIFF Unlimited is the streaming platform of the Transilvania International Film Festival, available online and on iOS and Android apps (mobile and TV).
