Pustnik Screenwriters Residency – Open call for this year’s edition

15 February, 2021

Organized by the TETA Association, Pustnik Screenwriters Residency has recently opened the applications for its 7th edition. Those who wish to apply are invited to submit their projects until March 28, 2021.

If in 2020 the residency was held entirely online, this year Pustnik returns with a new edition (September 10-18) that is intended to take place in its usual location, Port Cultural Cetate, an historical site with an incredible story of its own, located on the shore of the Danube, thus giving participants the chance to develop their projects in a quiet, chill place, surrounded by nature. Since its very first edition in 2014, the purpose of the Pustnik residency has been to organize a creative environment that brings filmmakers together in a space where they can work without being pressed by the daily concerns, and in the company of other creators.

The call is open to filmmakers developing their first or second feature project and who have previously written a short fiction or feature film which has been in the international festival circuit. Only fiction projects are accepted, and the screenplay must be submitted in English, which is also the language used within the residency. Eight screenwriters – two from Romania and six Internationals – will be selected.

There are no application or participation fees, and the organizers cover all the costs for the selected participants – accommodation, meals, transport within Romania, with the exception of the international transport for the foreign residents.

Andreea Bortun (writer/director, Romania) and Bryn Chainey (writer/director, UK/Australia), the curators and co-founders of Pustnik, will select the residents. The results will be announced in June.

The residency will take place over a period of nine days, during which the participants will have the opportunity to meet residency alumni who have already produced their debut films, as well as established screenwriters who can provide feedback on their projects.

The residency program includes common working sessions, as well as screenings of the films made by the guests or the residents, as to encourage the exchange of experience and ideas.

The call for entries for Pustnik Screenwriters Residency is open until March 28. For more details, visit their official website.
