The 93rd Oscars nominations – The first Romanian documentary to ever receive two Oscar nominations

15 March, 2021

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the nominations for the 2021 Oscars, scheduled to take place on April 25.

For the first time in the history of the Academy Awards, but also of Romanian cinema, two nominations have been granted to a Romanian film. And the film in question is collective, by Alexander Nanau, running for the Best Documentary Award and International Feature Award.

Actor-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas and singer, songwriter and actor Nick Jonas announced the 93rd Oscars nominations in a live presentation via global stream on the Academy’s official websites and digital platforms.

This year, the ceremony will take place in a range of locations at the same time, including the classic venue that has hosted the gala since 2002, the Dolby Theatre. In the United States, the event will be televised live on ABC, but it will also be broadcast live through partner networks in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide. The ceremony will also be available to stream on various digital platforms, including Hulu and YoutubeTV.

“In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate… To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see, while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre. We look forward to sharing more details soon.” (source: Vanity Fair)
