#WeekendFilms – Recommendations for July 19th-21st
For those who stayed in Bucharest or at home on the Electric Castle weekend, no worries. Do not despair, friends. There are options. Like films. Like cinemas. It’s cold in Cluj anyway. We have for you three recommendations of films to watch at the cinema and three films to watch at home.
- Government of Children 3D (dir. Ioana Mischie; documentary) – Government of Children 3D is a unique project in Romania, both as a civic imagination experiment and as an innovative cinematographic approach, being the first Romanian 3D documentary. Ioana Mischie invited 100 Romanian children to imagine the next 100 years of society in all its dimensions: educational, economic, architectural, social, technological.

- The Lion King (dir. Jon Favreau; animation) – In this live-action remake, Disney takes us on a new trip to the African savanna, where a future king is born. The young lion Simba worships his father, King Mufasa, and takes on the role of future ruler. But not everyone in the kingdom is happy about the lion cub’s birth.
The Lion King can be watched throughout this weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) at Grand Cinema & More, Movieplex Cinema and Happy Cinema Liberty Mall. Tickets can be purchased online here.
- Saf (dir. Ali Vatansever; drama) – Fikirtepe district in Istanbul. Urban development brings down the poor communities, and Syrian refugees find shelter in abandoned buildings. Kamil and his wife, Remziye, risk losing their home. Jobless for a long time, Kamil has to accept in secret to work on a construction site. When Kamil disappears out of the blue, his wife must face the consequences of his actions which don’t seem to be the actions of the man she knew. But Remziye refuses to give in.

Movies to watch at home:
- Pororoca (dir. Constantin Popescu; drama) – Pororoca tells the story of Tudor (Bogdan Dumitrache) and Cristina (Iulia Lumânare). They have a pretty ordinary life couple, focusing on raising their two children – Maria (5) and Ilie (7). On a Sunday morning, Tudor and the children go to the park near the block. In a moment of distraction of her father, Maria disappears. Together with other parents, Tudor desperately searches for her. 30 minutes later, Tudor calls the police, and Maria is officially considered missing.
The film runs on Cinemax 2 and Cinemax 2 HD on Friday, July 19th, at 9:30pm.
- Lemonade (dir. Ioana Uricariu; drama) – Mara, a 30-year-old single mother, marries Daniel (an American) while in the United States with a temporary nurse job. When her journey to get the Green Card takes an unexpected turn, Mara is forced to face an unpleasant truth. Lemonade was nominated for the Best Debut Award at Berlinale 2018 and Gopo Awards 2019.
The film can be watched on Sunday, July 21st, on Cinemax 2 and Cinemax 2 HD, at 2:55pm.
- Alone at My Wedding (dir. Marta Bergman; drama) – The film follows the story of Pamela, a young Roma woman, spontaneous and funny. She lives with her grandmother and her little girl in a small hut where the three of them share a bed. Dreaming of freedom, Pamela embarks on a journey into the unknown, breaking away from the traditions that suffocate her. She hopes that marriage will change her own destiny, as well as her daughter’s. A story about the courage and determination to overcome your condition.
