The 11th edition of the Kinofest International Film Festival which takes place between 22 and 24 of September 2017 brings to the audience not less than 200 short films, presented online and offline.

“Kinofest is the first and most important digital film festival in Romania and one of the most important in Central and East Europe. It is an independent project which aims to promote the young artists, the filmmakers and their work (film, music, visual arts). Furthermore, we strive to advertise the art and culture of media among the large public through the independent short film and the new video genres.” – Valetin Partenie, Festival’s director

The 200 short films that will be presented to the audience are divided in three competitive sections (online, fiction and animation) and other non-competitive programmes.

Since last year, the original characteristic of the festival is the partition of the competitive section into half: online (the films can be seen and voted from your own laptop) and offline (the films that are screened in the festival’s locations).

The online competition can be seen on the Kinofest website and on the Kinofest’s Youtube channel between 10 and 24 of September. The 21 finalist animations of the online competition are available for the public to watch and vote. The film with the most votes will win the 2017 Kinofest Best Online Film Prize. The public can vote until Sunday, September 24, 11:59 PM.

The offline sections (Animation and Fiction) will be screened at Energiea Pub on Friday and Saturday, starting at 7:00 PM.

Two sets of animations for children can be seen on the weekend at Elvire Popesco Cinema, starting at 11:00 AM. Saturday at 4:00 PM the public is invited at the Animation Adventure programme, a selection of films made between 2016 and 2017 by the students of GOBELINS, ArtFx, École Estienne, ISART DIGITAL, Ecole Melies, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, SSUŠ Academy of Animation Bratislava and School of Creative Media Hong Kong.

• Bernard or the Limits of Construction (directed by Cristian Drăgan)
• ‘După nouă sau zece ore’ (directed by Răzvan Dü) – created together with FILM+, a laboratory of work, advice and support for short film directors.
• ‘Prietena nouă’ and ‘Lunetisul timișorean’ (directed by Narcis Constantinescu)
• Market Day (directed by Sergiu Ciorescu) – a Moldavian film which received the Best Short Film Prize at Valletta.
• The Lonely Kangaroo (directed by Răzvan Mihai Badea).

On Sunday, starting with 4:00 PM at Elvire Popesco Cinema is scheduled a short film set: animations and comedy fictions. After these films, the programme continues with a selection of the best films from the previous editions of Kinofest.

Japanese short films from the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia and World Panorama Animation and Fiction programmes can be seen at Lente Attic.
