ANIM’EST: first Romanian film festival to become Oscar qualified

31 January, 2017

The International Animation Film Festival is the first ever Romanian film festival to receive such a distinction, alongside prestigious names such as Annecy International Animated Film Festival,  Festival de Cannes, Berlin International Film Festival and many others.

Festival Director Mihai Mitrica, about the latest nomination: ‘For the only animation film festival in Romania and the first film festival in Romania to be an Oscar® qualifying festival, it means a high standard international recognition, as well as a responsibility. And, since one of the aims of the festival has always been the revival and the support of local animation, the new distinction will also bring more visibility not only to the festival itself, but also to the growing Romanian animated film. ‘

Founded in 2006, Anim’est is organized every year in October, having six competitive sections and offering also themed film screenings and a wide range of workshops for animation enthusiasts. The festival has also special editions – in Chisinau since 2011, and in Brasov (2014).

Anim’est is organized by the ESTE’N’EST Cultural Organization, with the support of The National Centre of Cinematography, the Ministry of Culture in Romania, the Romanian Filmmakers Union and the Romanian Cultural Institute.
