Cannes 2021 – The winners of the 74th edition
The Cannes Film Festival took place this year between July 6-17, opening in the presence of Spike Lee, its jury president, Bong Joon-ho, the big winner of 2019, renowned filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, and Jodie Foster, who received the Festival’s Honorary Palme d’or.
The 74th edition showcased some of the best productions of the last year from all over the world, and Romania enjoyed a strong presence, having no less than 4 films in the festival program and a student film in the Cinéfondation selection. Moreover, Cristian Mungiu was appointed the president of the Semaine de la Critique section.
The Romanian films participating in Cannes and presented in world premiere were: Titane (dir. Julia Ducournau). It’s the second time in the history of the festival when the winner of the Palme d’Or is a woman.

La Civil was awarded the Un Certain Regard Courage Prize, and Love Stories on the Move with the Cinéfondation Third Prize.
