“Graduation” movie, by Cristian Mungiu has been nominated at the 2017 edition of César Awards in the “Best Foreign Film” category, becoming the first Romanian film to ever score a nomination at the France’s biggest film award ceremony.

“Graduation” movie by Cristian Mungiu, with Adrian Titieni and Maria Dragus as main characters, presents a father’s worries and problems in a corrupt society. The film had its premiere at Cannes film festival, in May 2016, receiving the award for “Best Director”. Mungiu’s previous works – ‘Over the Hills’, and ‘4 month, 3 weeks and 2 days’ were both winners at Cannes:  Over The Hills in 2012, for Best Actress, and Best Script, while “4 Months, 3 weeks and 2 days” took the Palme D’or in 2007. His most recent film, ‘Graduation’ was also nominated for “Best European Film” and “Best Script” at this year’s European Film Awards Ceremony.

Mungiu will compete with another five films at 2017’s César Awars:

– Aquarius, Portugal
– La Fille Inconnue, Belgium
– Manchester by the sea, USA
– I, Daniel Blake, UK
– Toni Erdmann, Germany / Romania

Maren Ade’s feature film “Toni Erdmann”, co-producer by Romanian producer Ada Solomon has received an Oscar nomination for ‘Best Foreign Film’, Solomon becoming the first Romanian producer to receive an Academy Award nomination.

The 42nd César Ceremony will take place on 24th of February, in Paris, France.
