The 9th edition of KINOdiseea International Film Festival dedicated to the young audience will take place between 9 and 15 of November in Bucharest. The event features the newest and most appreciated films for children awarded at international festivals.

This year’s edition of KINOdiseea has two important feature film competitions. KINOdiseea Junior includes 11 films dedicated to children aged between 3 and 15 years, parents and teachers and takes place at Romanian Peasant Museum Cinema, Eforie Cinema, Cinema PRO and KINOdiseea tent in Universității Square. The second competition is called KINOdiseea Youth and features six films for teenagers over 15 and film fans, which will be screened between 10 and 12 of November at Eforie Cinema.

The festival also has five short film competitions dedicated to people in different age categories. The shorts will be screened between 11 and 12 of November at Multimedia Hall at Grigore Antipa Museum.

The opening gala will be on November 9^th and will start at 7:00 PM, at Romanian Peasant Museum Cinema, where Heartstrings, directed by Michel Boujenah, will be screened. This film is one of the most awarded films of this year’s festivals dedicated to the young audience.

The 2017 KINOdiseea festival has the following guests: Merlin Pitois, France, director of ‘The Cage’ (who will be present at the Q&A session on Sunday, November 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, at Antipa Museum – Multimedia Hall), Anastasija Bräuniger, Germany, director of ‘Champions’ (who will participate at the Q&A session on Sunday, November 12, between 11 AM and 1 PM, at Antipa Museum – Multimedia Hall), Nicolae Negară, Republic of Moldavia, director of ‘The Escape’ (who will also be present at the Q&A session on Sunday, November 12, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, at Antipa Museum – Multimedia Hall), Radu Voinea, Romania, DOP of ‘Tiki-Taka’ (who will answer your questions at the Q&A session on Saturday, November 11, 2:30 – 4 PM, at Multimedia Hall – Antipa Museum) and Adrian Băluță, Romania, director of ‘The dor and a little bird’ (who will participate at the Q&A session on Saturday, November 11, from 1 to 2 PM, at Antipa Museum – Multimedia Hall).

Our recommendations from this year’s edition of KINOdiseea are:

• Summer 1993 (dir. Carla Simón) – winner of the International Jury’s Grand Prize at Berlin’s Generation Kplus category, the film is a wonderful autobiography and one of the most evocative and touching representation of childhood in recent years. The film is part of the KINOdiseea Junior section.
• The Big Bad Fox (dir. Benjamin Renner, Patrick Imbert) – an animation film addressed to anyone who believes that there is only peace and quiet in the countryside. Actually, here we find fussy animals, a fox that thinks she is a rooster, a rabbit which acts like a stork and a duck which wants to replace Santa Claus. The film is included in the KINOdiseea Junior section.
• All These Sleepless Nights (dir. Michal Marczak) – winner of the Director Award at 2016 Sundance’s World Cinema – Documentary category. The film has a sublime soundtrack based on electronic music and presents the city of Warsaw in 2015 through parks, apartments, public transport and clubs. All These Sleepless Nights is a calm portrait of some characters that seem to have no life plans. The film is part of KINOdiseea Youth.
• Heartstone (dir. Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson) – winner of Queer Lion Price in Venice; the film is about growing up, presenting two friends, Thor and Christian, going through a summer full of emotions. The film can be seen in the KINOdiseea Youth section.
• How to talk to girls at parties (dir. John Cameron Mitchell) – all the teenagers in the country are great fans of Sex Pistols and want to become punks, including our hero Enn. It is love at first sight when he meets the mysterious Zan. But these young people are, in fact, aliens sent on Earth to be part of a mysterious ritual.
