Less is More – Call for film projects
These are the last days for submitting film projects at Less is More!
The Less is More organization is supported by Creative Europe – Media Programme, of the European Union, led by Le Groupe Ouest (France), developed with the help of Control N (Romania), Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (Belgium), Krakow Festival Office (Poland), TIFF (Romania) in partnership with Lithuanian Film Center, Norwegian Film Institute and North Macedonia Film Agency.
Starting from the quote by Igor Stravinski, “The more art is bound by limitations, the freer it is”, LIM is looking to integrate limitation as part of the development process. Instead of trying to avoid it, filmmakers can use it to their advantage, looking for creative and unexpected solutions instead of choosing the easiest path.
LIM offers first, second or third-time feature filmmakers, with a filmography that includes short or feature films previously acknowledged in festivals or achievements in the field of visual arts and theater, the chance to develop their screenplay within the residence.
The LIM program consists of three one-week workshops in three regions of Europe, held between March and October 2020. The participants will meet with script consultants, international filmmakers, as well as producers and investors. Between the three workshops there will be online sessions to provide feedback throughout the whole eight month period.
The region where the first workshop will take place is Przegorzały, Poland, in a forest area, where participants will be able to walk, visit zoos and nature reserves. The purpose of this first workshop is to create a space where participants can set the theme and narrative of the project.
The second workshop will be held in Plouneour-Brignogan, France, at Le Groupe Ouest, more precisely, on a farm, in the middle of a small French village, near the sea. Here, the participants will continue to develop their projects, considering the feedback offered by the experts in the field during the workshops, as well as the sessions held between them.
One of the goals of this workshop is to develop creative solutions imposed by budget constraints.
And the last workshop will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania, also near a forest. Most of the discussions with the consultants will be held here, and the ultimate goal is to help the participants reach their first screenplay draft.
Among the LIM tutors are Razvan Radulescu, screenwriter of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, Child’s Pose, script consultant for 4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days, The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu, etc. and Matthieu Taponier, screenwriter and film editor, script consultant at Semaine de la critique Next Step, Le Groupe Ouest, First Cut Lab, etc. as well as a script consultant and editor for Son of Saul (dir. Nemes László), which won the Grand Prix at Cannes in 2015.
Entries are open until October 31st, 2019 and 16 participants will be selected. Both screenwriters and directors who want to develop their fiction film project in a production with a limited budget can apply for the program.
