The Warsaw Film Festival, the most important film festival in Poland, kicks off a new edition, between October 9-18. The program includes 180 feature and short films, animation and documentary films, from 63 countries. The public will have the opportunity to watch 7 world premieres, 7 international premieres and one European premiere.

The film that will open the festival is The Book of Vision (dir. Carlo S. Hintermann), which follows the story of a young doctor who embarks on a metaphysical journey through time and space, after finding a strange manuscript from the 18h century.

The closing film of the festival is Dear Comrades! (dir. Andrei Konchalovsky), winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. A film based on a true story that was officially kept secret until the 1990s, about communist ideals and the tragic reality of facts.

A pleasant surprise is the presence in large numbers of several Romanian productions and co-productions in the festival program. Here are some of the films that have been selected in the competition sections:

Mia Misses Her Revenge (dir. Bogdan Theodor Olteanu) – selected in the Competition 1-2, a section dedicated to filmmakers at their first or second feature film;

Spiral (dir. Cecília Felméri), a Hungary-Romania co-production – selected in the Competition 1-2;

Toni & Friends (dir. Ion Indolean) – presented in world premiere in the Free Spirit Competition;

We Don’t Deserve Dogs (dir. Matthew Salleh), a co-production with Romanian participation – selected in the Documentary Competition;

Cradle (dir. Paul Muresan) – presented in world premiere in the Short Films Competition;

Nowhere Special (dir. Uberto Pasolini), a UK/Italy/Romania co-production – presented in the Special Screenings section;

Unidentified (dir. Bogdan George Apetri), a Romania/Czech Republic/Latvia co-production – selected in the International Competition.
