The second edition of Pelicula Festival

11 September, 2017

There are two more days until Película 2 will fill Bucharest with colour and films. Some movies will have the premiere, some could be seen for a short time in our cinemas, but most of them probably will be screened only once in Romania.

As you already know, Película is a festival dedicated to the Latin-American culture and combines the film screenings with the dance showcases, the food with the music, the photography exhibitions with the stories of those who love this world full of passion and humanity. Therefore, the audience’s experience is complete and unique.

The main character of this year’s edition is Mexico with its entire cultural richness. Among the events that celebrate Mexico we have to mention: the Romanian premiere of Maquinaria Panamericana with the participation of the director Joaquin del Paso, the screening of five Mexican short films, the projection of the film Frida Naturaleza Viva and the re-launch of the Secret Book of Frida Kahlo published by Nemira which mark the 110th  anniversary of the famous painter Frida Kahlo. Also, there will be a genuine exhibition of the Illustrators Club, a Mexican Fiesta and other related events. During the festival, Mexico will celebrate 207 years of independence.

Romanian Film Development also recommends:

  • The special screening of the film Neruda directed by Pablo Larraín and nominated at the Golden Globes. The movie presents Pablo Neruda, the Nobel Prize winner for Literature in 1971.
  • The projection of the Buena Vista Social Club: Adios documentary about the famous Cuban band, an event made in collaboration with DokStation; the projection will be opened with Cuban music and dance.
  • The Space In Between: Marina Abramovic and Brazil follows the mystic trip of the famous artist in Brazil, where she takes part in sacred rituals and looks for the meeting point between spirituality and art, wanting to find her spiritual healing and inspiration. A combination between a road movie and spiritual thriller, the film proposes a unique approach to the creative process.
  • The special section of the festival called Discovery Talks with stories from Latin America which will take place at Lente Praporgescu. On Saturday, September 16, and Sunday, September 17, you will have the chance to meet new storytellers who will talk about Chile, Mexico, Peru and Brazil: Dinu Drog, Martin Allonso Borrego-Llorente, Juan Pablo Artaza and Delia Marinescu.

Most of the film screenings will be marked by pleasant surprises: Tango shows, Capoeira demonstrations, musical moments with bandoneon, guitar, piano, Salsa, Bachata, Rueda de casino, Salsa Cubana demonstrations.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, you can enjoy the spicy taste of Mexico at Taqueria El Torito.
